UCAT test day in NZ starts with an ID check, well before you see the first question. UCAT ANZ 2027 will be sat in July 2027 for 2028 entry, but its test day rules haven't been updated yet. The 2026 rules tell you which original photo ID to bring and how check-in worked, so plan around those for now.
What should I bring to UCAT test day in NZ?
Bring one original, current, official photo ID that the UCAT ANZ policy accepts, and your Pearson appointment confirmation email, printed or on a device for check-in. The name on your account has to match the first and last name on your ID. The official FAQ allowed differences in middle names and capitalisation, but if there's a bigger mismatch, get it fixed before test day.

A driver licence only works in the country that issued it. The official policy also accepts certain Australian and Asian IDs, but only in their home testing countries, so the table sticks to the options that matter at a New Zealand centre. Photocopies and expired documents aren't accepted. If your name has changed, the 2026 policy asked you to contact Pearson at least five working days before your appointment with a copy of your ID.
How early should I reach the UCAT centre?
In 2026 UCAT ANZ told candidates to arrive 30 minutes before their appointment. Turning up more than 15 minutes late meant losing the fee. If you're coming from another town, build some slack into your travel. Check the address and appointment time on your booking confirmation before you leave, and check them again if you've rescheduled.
At check-in, staff checked ID, took a photo, asked candidates to agree to the exam rules and did a visual inspection. Some centres also scanned for devices. All of that takes time no matter how well you've studied, so treat your appointment time as the latest you can walk in the door, and don't make it the time you start looking for a park.
What happens to my phone and belongings?
Under the 2026 rules, bags, coats, hats, watches, calculators, phones, food, drink and keys all went into a locker. Permitted comfort aids and religious or medical headwear were the exceptions. The centre gave you a computer, a standard keyboard and mouse, and a laminated A4 notebook with a marker or a noteboard. You couldn't bring a physical calculator. Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning used the on-screen one.
Disposable earplugs in unopened packaging were available on request in Australia and New Zealand, and you could bring your own. Ask staff for them before the clock starts. An approved access arrangement may change what you can take into the room, so follow what staff tell you about approved items.
Can I take a break during the UCAT?
You can't pause the standard test. A toilet or water break comes out of your test time, though leaving between subtests does less damage than leaving in the middle of one. Approved rest-break versions have a different timing rule. Each subtest has a timed instruction period before its question clock, and the test moves on by itself when time runs out. The current format runs a little under two hours, and you should confirm the 2027 format once UCAT ANZ publishes it.
If something goes wrong with the computer or the centre, put your hand up straight away. In 2026 UCAT ANZ required an incident investigation request within one day of the test. The score report you get later won't show which individual answers you got right. According to the official results and test day pages, it arrives by email within 24 hours. Read the incident process while the details are still fresh.
What if I wake up sick?
UCAT ANZ treats turning up as your declaration that you're fit to sit. Its 2026 reschedule rules applied to illness too, and you had to make any change at least 24 hours before your appointment, if there was space. Read what to do if you cannot sit before you decide to travel. Our UCAT ANZ 2027 guide and centre guide cover booking and travel earlier in the cycle.
Check your documents several weeks out. Some accepted photo IDs take a month or more to get, and there's no fixing an expired passport on the morning of the exam. Open your Pearson account, compare the first and last name with your ID, and read the current policy if you plan to test outside New Zealand. If there's a mismatch, contact Pearson within the time the policy gives you. Centre staff at check-in aren't the people to ask for an exception.
The official Tour Tutorial is part of getting ready for test day as well. Use it to practise flagging, the navigator and the calculator in the same style of interface you'll see at the centre. During the test, the no-negative-marking rule does nothing for a question you leave blank. Keep an eye on the section clock and leave yourself time to put in an answer for every question.

If you want to practise on each subtest's clock before the day, see how Cutline UCAT practice works.
