The UCAT universities list on ucat.edu.au covers the 2026 test, for 2027 entry. UCAT ANZ 2027 will be sat in July 2027 for 2028 entry, and the Consortium list for that cycle hasn't been published. In New Zealand that gap matters, because Auckland has already dropped UCAT for its 2028 Medicine intake.
Which NZ universities use UCAT ANZ for Medicine?
The current Consortium list names Auckland and Otago for Medicine in the 2027 entry cycle. It doesn't list Otago Dentistry. If you're applying in 2027 for 2028 entry, the course pages give you a more useful answer than the list does.

For 2027 entry, Otago required domestic HSFY and Graduate Medicine applicants to have a UCAT result from the same year, with thresholds in Verbal Reasoning and Situational Judgement. Once you met those thresholds, Otago didn't weight UCAT any further in selection. Its 2028 thresholds haven't been published. Otago's Alternative Medicine category didn't require UCAT. Auckland's published 2028 Medicine criteria use Casper and an MMI, with GPA as an eligibility gate. Auckland says UCAT is required for 2027 entry and isn't required for 2028 entry. If you're applying only to Auckland Medicine for 2028, you don't need UCAT for that course. Otago's Dentistry page for 2027 entry has no UCAT requirement, which fits with Otago's notice that it dropped UCAT for Dentistry from the 2025 intake. The Central Queensland, Sunshine Coast, Queensland and Southern Queensland rows involve provisional pathways. The University of Western Australia row runs through its specialised Bachelor of Biomedicine routes. We shortened those descriptions to keep the table readable, so use the linked Consortium page and the university's own page for the exact course names. We haven't verified Australian cut offs or how each institution classifies New Zealand applicants.
Does every listed pathway require UCAT?
No. The Consortium itself warns that some medicine, dentistry and clinical sciences pathways don't require UCAT, and that some applicants may need a different test. Its 2027 entry list says nothing about 2028 entry. It also doesn't override a course's own rules on citizenship, schooling, qualifications or application route.
As an NZ student, start with where you want to go and which year you want to start. If you're aiming for Otago Medicine, plan for a 2027 sitting while you wait for its 2028 thresholds. If Auckland Medicine is your only target, follow its 2028 Casper and MMI requirements instead. If you're considering Australia, look closely at each programme before you pay. Think of the 2027 entry list as a snapshot of one admissions cycle. A course may change its test, pathway or applicant rules before the next intake. Auckland is the clearest example, because it still appears on the 2027 entry Consortium page while its own 2028 Medicine page has already replaced UCAT. If two pages seem to disagree, compare the entry years they state first. Then go with the current course page for the route you'll apply through.
Do the same route check for Otago. The HSFY and Graduate categories had a UCAT hurdle for 2027 entry, and Alternative didn't. Dentistry has its own separate interview and academic process. If Dentistry is your only target, buying a UCAT slot because you saw the word 'Otago' on a general list could waste your fee.
