UCAT access arrangements in NZ can get you extra time, rest breaks or a suitable test room, if the Consortium approves your application. UCAT ANZ 2027 is the sitting in July 2027 for 2028 entry. Its access arrangements dates haven't been published, so plan on the 2026 order for now: apply, wait for approval, then book. Get that order wrong and you can lose the slot you wanted.
How do UCAT access arrangements work in NZ?
UCAT ANZ assesses your application and allocates a test version or another adjustment. The published options include standard time with rest breaks, extra time per hour, 25 percent extra time, or extra time with breaks. Other arrangements can include adjustable font and colour, wheelchair access, a smaller group or a separate room, and permission to bring in medical items or food and drink.
The names and timings below are from the 2026 cycle. They show why asking vaguely for 'more time' won't get you far, because each version is specific. Once the 2027 cycle opens, read the official access arrangements page for the evidence you need and the application form.
| Version | Time adjustment | Rest breaks |
|---|---|---|
| UCATANZ SA | Standard time | 20 minutes |
| SEN10 | 10 minutes per hour | None listed |
| SEN10SA | 10 minutes per hour | 23 minutes |
| SEN | 25 percent extra | None listed |
| SENSA | 25 percent extra | 25 minutes |

When is the UCAT extra time deadline?
In 2026, access arrangements applications opened on Monday 16 February and the usual deadline was Friday 15 May. Late applications were accepted up to Friday 29 May, with an A$85 late fee. The 2027 dates and fees still haven't been published. Don't confuse this with the 2026 concession scheme deadline of Monday 11 May. That was a separate process, and it was for Australians only.
In 2026 the Consortium emailed an outcome in about five business days, and you had to have approval before you booked. If you already held a standard appointment and your arrangements were then approved, that booking was cancelled and refunded. You couldn't extend it in place, and you couldn't book your own arranged test either. That can cost you the slot you wanted, which is the best reason to start early.
What evidence do you need for UCAT dyslexia or another condition?
The 2026 policy asked for a letter dated in the test year, on school or university letterhead, confirming the exam accommodations you get now. It also asked for the practitioner or psychologist documents you gave that school or university. A diagnosis on its own isn't the whole application. Ask your school or uni for the letter early enough that you have time to check the names and dates are right.
The policy says it doesn't approve extra time for handwriting difficulties, or because English isn't your first language. It also doesn't provide a reader or a computer reader. Other adjustments may still suit you, so describe the barrier you face and use the official form instead of guessing at a version code.
How should you plan your booking?
- Read the current official policy and list the arrangements you use in exams.
- Request the test-year institutional letter and supporting clinical documents.
- Submit the UCAT ANZ application before booking, then wait for its email decision.
- Follow the booking instructions in that decision and keep the confirmation emails.
Access arrangements apply to one test year, so an approval from a previous year doesn't roll forward. If you're preparing around HSFY, check your semester commitments and travel before you accept a slot. Our dates guide tracks the 2027 deadlines that are still pending, and the centre guide explains how limited regional days affect your choice.
Once you know your approved conditions, practise with the official timed materials in the version that matches them. The official site offers SEN timed practice versions. Start with the Tour Tutorial so the on-screen tools feel familiar. Our full 2027 guide shows where the application fits in the rest of the cycle.
Use the wording in your evidence to explain the barrier you'd face in a timed computer test. Your school letter should confirm the arrangements you get now. A letter that only says you'd benefit from support is weaker. Check whether the clinical document you sent your school is the same one UCAT ANZ asks you to attach. If there's a gap, ask your school or uni about it before the deadline. The Consortium decides your version, so picking a code from the table above doesn't mean you've been approved for it.
If the decision you get doesn't match your needs, use the contact route on the official access page while appointments are still available. Don't assume a standard booking holds you a place in an arranged session. Under the published process, a standard appointment is cancelled after approval and you get separate booking instructions. If you have to travel from a regional town, the risk on the ground is that only a few suitable sessions are left by the time you book.
FAQ
Can I book first and add extra time later?
The 2026 rules required approval before booking. If you already had a standard booking and your arrangements were approved, it was cancelled and refunded.
Is dyslexia an automatic extra time approval?
No. UCAT ANZ assesses your evidence and the exam accommodations you get now. Apply through its official process.
Do access arrangements carry over from a previous UCAT?
No. The published arrangements apply to that test year only.
Once your test is arranged and you want timed practice by subtest, see how Cutline UCAT practice works.
Cutline is not affiliated with or endorsed by the UCAT ANZ Consortium or the University of Otago. UCAT is used here only to describe the test. Official information checked 14 October 2026. Check ucat.edu.au for the 2027 cycle when it is published.
