UCAT mock scores vs real score: which can you trust?

Third-party UCAT mock scores and the "official mock scores" people quote often disagree because they come from different questions and different scoring methods. The official UCAT ANZ practice tests don't give a score at all, so none of these numbers can tell you your real result in advance; use them to track your own trend.

Why do UCAT mock scores differ from the real score?

The official practice tests show which answers you got right and let you open an explanation for each question. The page says they are not set up to save your result or give a score. Any number attached to one of those tests came from your own conversion or someone else's converter. Calling it your official score gives it more weight than it has.

The live test turns raw marks into scaled scores for Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning, and Decision Making gives partial marks on its multiple-statement questions. The UCAT ANZ scoring page explains that system without publishing a raw-to-scaled conversion table. A third-party provider writes its own questions and makes its own score estimate. We can't check that estimate against the live conversion, and the UCAT ANZ FAQ warns that commercial questions may not match the standard of the real test.

A paid mock still has uses. Its number is a rough signal from that provider's paper. Different sets expose different weak spots, and one section where you ran out of time can swing the whole result. Compare like with like before you decide your ability has changed.

Which UCAT mock is closest to the real exam?

The official practice tests are the safest reference for the format, because UCAT ANZ describes its practice material as representative of the live test. They still can't give you a predicted scaled score. Nobody outside the Consortium can promise that a commercial mock matches the live questions or their difficulty. Use the free official resources to learn the interface and question types, then add another bank if you need more volume.

Ranking mocks by how kind the score feels misses the useful part. Look at where you spent too long, where you guessed, and which errors you could explain once you saw the answer. A hard set can be good practice even when its estimated score looks grim.

How should I track UCAT mock progress?

Keep a short record for each timed set: the source, the date, the section, how many you got right, how many you left blank and the kind of mistake you made. Put any third-party estimated score in its own column, and keep it apart from anything that looks like an official result.

After each mock, pick one cause you can change. If you knew the method but ran out of time, practise the point where you move on. If you misread a condition, drill that question type. Repeat a comparable set later and look for a pattern across several attempts. One bad afternoon on its own tells you very little about test day.

The prep timeline covers when full tests fit in. UCAT ANZ 2027 is sat in July 2027 for 2028 entry, and its dates and fees are not published yet. The 2027 NZ guide keeps the confirmed information apart from planning advice.

FAQ

Do official UCAT ANZ mocks give a score out of 2,700?

No. The review screen shows correct answers and explanations, and the practice tests do not produce a score.

Should I convert my raw mock marks to a scaled score?

You can make an estimate, but UCAT ANZ has not published a conversion for its practice tests. Label the result as your estimate.

Does a low third-party mock score mean I will score low in the real UCAT?

No single mock shows that. Check your mistakes and the trend across comparable attempts, and use the official material as your format reference.
