Auckland MMI 2026: the date, the day, and what to have ready
One sitting, one time, everybody at once. Tuesday 8 September 2026 at 11.00AM. Here is the timeline around it, what you need on the desk, and what you are not allowed to have.

The date
"The MMI will be held on Tuesday 8 September 2026, at 11.00AM." "All applicants will complete the MMI at the same time."
One sitting. One time. Everyone at once. UoA explains the reasoning in its FAQ: an asynchronous MMI means applicants sit it at the same time and therefore get the same experience.
That is a bigger deal than it sounds, and it is worth planning around rather than discovering. There is no pick-a-slot booking page, no morning and afternoon session, and nothing published about a backup sitting. Whatever else is in your calendar for the middle of Tuesday 8 September, it is not going to move.
When invitations go out
At its 19 August 2026 applicant webinar, UoA said invitations to sit the MMI are sent on 26 August 2026. If you are shortlisted, the registration link for Kira Talent is emailed to you around a week before the interview, and UoA asks you to complete that registration at least one day before the day itself.
The week before: your rehearsal on the real platform
"Applicants who receive an MMI invitation will be able to register on Kira Talent the week before the MMI. Applicants will be able to make sure their device is set up well, and can practise answering questions on the platform."
Do it. It is free, it is the actual software, and it is the only chance you get to find out that your microphone is the one on your monitor rather than the one you thought, at a time when finding out is harmless.
What to have ready, physically
- A desktop or laptop. UoA states you need a computer with a functioning webcam and microphone or wired headphones, and that you cannot use a tablet or a mobile phone.
- Primary and secondary ID. There are stations at the end of the MMI where you show both and answer questions related to the Safety Check process.
- Paper and a pen. Handwritten notes during the 30 second preparation are explicitly permitted, and they are the only notes you may have.
- A room where nothing will interrupt you for half an hour. The whole MMI takes about 30 minutes and you cannot pause it.
And what you may not have: no books, no pre-prepared written or electronic notes, no cell phone, no smartwatch, no additional technology, and no recording devices of any kind.
What happens on the day
- You log in at least 15 minutes early. At 11.00AM you click Start yourself and refresh the page: the MMI does not start on its own.
- Each of the seven scenario stations plays a short video of somebody reading the scenario aloud, with the same text shown underneath. There is one question per station and no follow-ups, because your answer is recorded rather than a conversation.
- Then 30 seconds to prepare. Your camera is on and you can see yourself, but this part is not recorded. Then three minutes that are recorded, with the scenario still on screen and a timer counting down.
- Between stations there is a ten second break, which you may skip.
- After the seventh scenario come the ID and Safety Check steps: your primary and secondary ID, and the safety questions. These sit at the end and are not one of the seven scenarios.
- That is it. About 30 minutes in total. There is no pausing and no re-recording at any point.

Afterwards
Your seven answers are distributed at random across a reviewer pool, one answer per reviewer, so seven separate people assess you and none of them sees more than one of your responses. UoA states repeatedly that AI is not used to mark the MMI or to select students. Your scores are emailed to you around October 2026.
Dates that have already passed for the 2026 sitting
Two, and they are here so nobody spends an afternoon chasing them.
- 1 July 2026 was the deadline to request a disability accommodation for this sitting. Note that the universal accommodations, including captions, 200 percent zoom, keyboard navigation, screen reader audio notifications and handwritten notes, need no approval at all and are available to everybody.
- 19 August 2026 was UoA’s applicant information session on the MMI. If you missed it, the four PDFs it was built around are all linked at the bottom of this page and cover most of the same ground.
And the date that matters for next year
UoA says its Clinical Admissions Selection page will be updated for 2027 entry in October 2026. That is the page carrying the interview volumes and the GPA cutpoint tables, so it is the one to watch if you are a year behind this cycle.
If you are in first year now, the bigger change is already announced and it is not about dates: Auckland is dropping the UCAT and adding Casper for 2028 entry.
