UCAT ANZ vs UK UCAT: can you use UK prep books?

Yes, a current UK UCAT book or question bank can help you practise for UCAT ANZ, because the UK UCAT site says the two tests are identical in content. Check every score target and admissions claim against ANZ and NZ sources before you rely on it, especially advice about Situational Judgement bands.

Can I use UK UCAT books for UCAT ANZ?

The skills transfer. The UK UCAT eligibility page says UCAT ANZ is identical in content to the UCAT. Both current tests have Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Situational Judgement, and the published standard tables show the same question counts and section times in the ANZ format and the UK timings. A recent UK question makes good practice as long as its question type still appears in the ANZ tutorials.

Older books need a closer look. Abstract Reasoning was removed from UCAT ANZ in 2025. A resource that still gives it a section, quotes a four-subtest cognitive total out of 3,600, or uses section timings that differ from the current tables will waste your time and skew your score comparisons. Check the edition date, then check the contents against the official ANZ format page and tutorials.

A UK bank's "good score" reflects UK applicants and UK universities. Otago used thresholds in Verbal Reasoning and SJT for 2027 Medicine entry, with no further UCAT weight once you cleared them. Auckland has removed UCAT for 2028 Medicine entry. Read the NZ Medicine score guide before you borrow a UK target.

Can I sit UCAT UK and UCAT ANZ in the same year?

No. Both the ANZ misconduct rules and the UK eligibility page treat sitting both in one year as misconduct. Australian and New Zealand universities only accept UCAT ANZ results, so the UK site tells students applying in both regions to sit UCAT ANZ. The UK office then has a form for sending an ANZ result to UK universities, and it converts the ANZ SJT score to a band for that purpose.

Use the free ANZ official practice as your reference for the interface, then add suitable UK questions if you need more. UCAT ANZ 2027 is sat in July 2027 for 2028 entry, and our 2027 NZ guide tracks the cycle details as they come out.

FAQ

Are UK and ANZ UCAT timings different in 2026?

No. The published standard section times match in 2026. Check the 2027 ANZ table when it comes out, and check any access arrangement separately.

Should I use an old UK book with Abstract Reasoning?

Use its still-current question types if they help, and skip the Abstract Reasoning section and any old total-score advice.

Will a UK Band 1 target tell me what Otago needs?

No. Otago's published requirement uses an SJT percentile threshold. The band conversion only matters when an ANZ result is sent to a UK or partner university.
