Whether the UCAT SJT counts in Australia depends on the course. For 2027 entry, with UCAT sat in 2026, UNSW didn't consider it, UQ Medicine used it only to break ties, and UQ Dental and Flinders counted it in their rankings. A few schools don't say either way. UCAT ANZ 2027 is the sitting for 2028 entry, and universities haven't published a full set of 2028 SJT rules, so check the course, your applicant group and the entry year before you decide how much time SJT gets.
Does UCAT SJT count in Australia, university by university?
The SJT comes back as its own scaled score on your UCAT ANZ report. Your cognitive total is Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning, and SJT sits beside it. A school can ignore SJT, use it to separate tied applicants, or add it into a selection score. Where a university says nothing, the table says "not stated" instead of guessing.

CQU gets its own row because its pages contradict each other. The course page says it adds "the first four sections", while CQU's entry PDF uses SJT and then Verbal Reasoning only as tie-breaks, and one CQU pathway page still lists Abstract Reasoning, which left the test in 2025. Ask CQU which rule applies before you plan around it. Griffith and UniSC Medical Science use UCAT as an optional tie-break within an ATAR band, but Griffith's page calls that score the "Total Score" in one line and the "Overall Score" in another, so it doesn't say clearly whether SJT is in it. Griffith Dental uses UCAT for interviews and offers without stating how it treats SJT. Don't read a rule into the word "total".
What does an SJT tie-break mean?
A tie-break only kicks in when applicants are level on the score used at that stage. Under UQ's 2027 Medicine rules, the cognitive total decided interview invitations, and SJT and then Verbal Reasoning separated anyone tied. Monash uses the SJT mark only when applicants have the same UCAT total. Adelaide ranked interview invitations on the first three sections with equal weight and used SJT to break ties. In all three, SJT only comes into play for applicants level on the score used at that stage.
UniSQ, one of the two regional pathways to UQ Medicine, also used SJT and then Verbal Reasoning as interview tie-breaks for 2027 entry. Which courses include SJT in a ranking score?
UQ Dental Science ranked applicants on all four UCAT sections added together for 2027 entry, so your SJT went straight into the dental total. Flinders Medicine said its UCAT-derived score uses all four sections, and for 2027 entry that score was 10 percent of the school-leaver rank, with Year 12 results making up the other 90 percent. UWA says SJT "is not currently part of the overall score" and keeps the right to use it later. The JMP excluded SJT "for admission 2027". Neither statement tells you the 2028 rule for a test sat in 2027.
Write the stage next to each course on your preference list. A school that uses SJT to break an interview tie is doing something different from a school that adds it to your final rank. If a university says nothing about SJT, mark it as unknown and email its admissions team. Don't treat silence as an exclusion. Every university gets the same score report and applies its own policy to it, so the course page is where the answer lives.
How should I practise SJT if my first choice ignores it?
You still sit the subtest, and another course on your list may count it. Start with the official SJT question tutorial and practice material, and use the Cutline SJT page for more scenarios. Split your time to match your course list, and shift it if the 2028 rules change.

Is the UCAT ANZ SJT reported as a band?
No. The official ANZ scoring page reports SJT as a separate scaled score from 300 to 900.
Does UNSW consider SJT for Medicine?
No. UNSW said it would not consider the SJT mark for 2027 entry, using UCAT sat in 2026.
Will the JMP ignore SJT in 2028?
That hasn't been published. Its exclusion was stated for 2027 entry only, using the test sat in 2026.
