UCAT for dentistry in Australia: courses and score rules

UCAT for dentistry in Australia matters at five universities for 2027 entry, with UCAT sat in 2026: Adelaide University, Charles Sturt, Griffith, UQ and UWA. Each dental course uses the score its own way. Griffith is the only one that published a past lowest interview score (2320, or 1860 rural, for 2026 entry with the test sat in 2025), and the rest don't publish a number. UCAT ANZ 2027 is the sitting for 2028 entry, and no 2028 dental figures are out yet.

How is UCAT for dentistry in Australia used?

The consortium's 2027 entry course list includes Dental Surgery and Oral Health at Adelaide, Dental Science at Charles Sturt, Dental Health Science at Griffith, Dental Science at UQ, and UWA's assured pathway to the Doctor of Dental Medicine. Two courses with similar names can select in completely different ways, so don't assume one school's rule from another's.

This table shows how each dental or oral health course used UCAT for 2027 entry (test sat in 2026), for the main published routes.

You may come across a "50th percentile" minimum for Charles Sturt Dental on an old UAC course row. That row shows 2025 dates, so it belongs to 2026 entry (test sat in 2025). Charles Sturt's own course page is inconsistent as well: it says the 2027 intake closes on 13 September 2026, while a widget on the same page says there are no upcoming offerings for 2027. Neither page gives a 2027 UCAT figure, so treat the 50th percentile as out of date and check with Charles Sturt.

What UCAT score was needed for Griffith Dental?

Griffith's FAQ gave the lowest scores selected for interview for 2026 entry, from UCAT sat in 2025: 2320 for non-rural applicants and 1860 for rural applicants. Griffith said to use them "as a guide for 2027 admissions", which makes them a rough guide for 2027 and tells you nothing firm about 2028. For 2027 entry, interview invitations went on UCAT total, and offers were 20 percent UCAT, 40 percent interview and 40 percent ATAR or GPA.

Griffith doesn't set a minimum ATAR; its FAQ calls 90.00 or above "competitive", which is a description and not an entry floor. The interview is an asynchronous video interview, so your UCAT gets you to one stage of several. The rural UCAT guide shows Griffith's rural dental figure next to the medical pathways, with a clear label that they're different courses.

Does UQ count Situational Judgement for Dental Science?

Yes. Under UQ's 2027 entry policy, Dental Science applicants were ranked on all four UCAT sections added together, SJT included, with SJT and then Verbal Reasoning breaking ties. UQ Medicine works differently: it uses the three cognitive sections and keeps SJT for ties. UQ Dental listed a minimum ATAR of 99.0 with English and Chemistry, and no interview is stated. Applicants through the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander scheme don't need UCAT. UQ didn't publish a dental UCAT cut-off. Read UQ's Schedule 2 with the course page.

Our SJT by university guide shows why a Medicine study plan doesn't carry straight across to Dentistry. The UCAT scoring page reports SJT separately on a 300 to 900 scale, and UQ's dental policy chooses to add it back in.

How do Adelaide, Charles Sturt and UWA differ?

Adelaide University picked interview invitations for Dental Surgery and Oral Health on UCAT alone for 2027 entry, with the first three sections weighted equally and SJT as a tie-break. Offers were 20 percent UCAT, 40 percent interview and 40 percent academic results. The minimum ATAR was 90.00 for Dental Surgery and 70.00 for Oral Health, so check which degree someone means before you trust a quoted minimum.

Charles Sturt used UCAT to pick Dental Science interview candidates for 2027 entry and didn't publish a cut-off. The interview was an in-person panel at Orange, and First Nations applicants "do not need to complete UCAT".

UWA's assured DMD pathway used UCAT to pick interview invitations and gave it 20 percent of the final rank for 2027 entry, with "no set minimum score requirement". SJT "is not currently part of the overall score", though UWA keeps the right to use it. You enter through the Bachelor of Biomedicine, so a school leaver doesn't start in the DMD itself. The weighting guide covers UWA's Medicine formula, which follows the same structure.

What should a 2028 dentistry applicant check?

Find the exact course page and note your applicant category, prerequisites, the UCAT rule and the admissions centre. The Australia guide covers every consortium university, while this page sticks to dental and oral health. UCAT ANZ's free practice material covers the test itself. If your course counts all four sections, practise Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Situational Judgement with the same care.

I'm an Otago med student and Cutline is NZ-based. Otago Dentistry dropped UCAT from the 2025 intake, so the NZ rule is no help here. Everything above comes from the Australian universities' own pages, and you'll need to check them again when the 2028 entry versions appear.

What else do applicants ask?

Is 2320 the Griffith Dental cut-off for 2028?

No. It was the lowest non-rural score selected for interview for 2026 entry, from UCAT sat in 2025. No 2028 figure has been published.

Does UQ Dental use SJT?

Yes. Its 2027 entry policy added all four UCAT sections together for selection.

Is there one UCAT score for Australian dentistry?

No. The courses use UCAT at different stages, and only Griffith has published a past figure.
