JMP UCAT selection at Newcastle and the University of New England used the three cognitive subtests for 2027 entry, with UCAT sat in 2026. The Joint Medical Program left Situational Judgement out for that intake and didn't publish a numeric UCAT cut-off. UCAT ANZ 2027 is the sitting for 2028 entry, and the JMP hasn't confirmed either its 2028 cut-off or its 2028 SJT rule.
How did JMP UCAT selection work for 2027 entry?
The JMP added up your ranks in Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning to decide who went through to the JMP Assessment. It says "there is no threshold requirement attached to the subtests", but there was still a selection level for the combined result. The program set that level after direct applications closed, used different levels for rural and non-rural applicants, and set lower levels for some equity routes. It didn't publish any of those numbers, so read the official selection process before you trust a total someone quotes online.
Here is what the JMP published for 2027 entry, with UCAT sat in 2026.
| Item | JMP rule for 2027 entry |
|---|---|
| UCAT sections used | Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning |
| Situational Judgement | Not part of selection for 2027 |
| UCAT cut-off | Set after applications closed; not published |
| Minimum ATAR | 94.3; 85 under the Rural Bonus Scheme |
| JMP Assessment | Multiple Skills Assessment and Personal Qualities Assessment |
| Applications | UCAT, direct JMP application and UAC |

The SJT line says it "will not form part of the JMP selection process for admission 2027". That covers one intake. It doesn't tell you the 2028 rule for a test sat in 2027. The SJT comparison shows which Australian courses ignored, tie-broke with or counted the subtest for 2027 entry.
The JMP Assessment for 2027 entry ran in person at Newcastle or Armidale. The JMP hasn't published how it weights UCAT against the assessments in the final decision. The ATAR figures in the table are academic minimums and say nothing about your UCAT.
Is there a JMP UCAT cut-off for rural applicants?
There is a rural level, and the JMP doesn't publish it. For 2027 entry it said rural and non-rural selection levels differed and that lower levels applied to the Rural and Remote Admission Scheme, the Communities Entry List and some other routes. To use the rural route you need to meet the scheme's definition and apply through its process. A postcode or a school name won't do it on its own.
The JMP aimed for 30 percent rural students for 2027 entry. That's a target for places, and it doesn't come with a score. The Rural Bonus Scheme's 85 ATAR applied to students whose school was in MM2 to MM7. The Communities Entry List covers the Hunter New England, Central Coast and Mid North Coast health districts. The entry support schemes page has the official definitions.
New Zealand citizens counted as domestic for general entry in 2027, but the JMP says they can't use the rural and remote scheme, the Communities Entry List or bonded places. I'm an Otago med student and Cutline is NZ-based, so if you're applying from New Zealand, read the citizenship line for your exact route before you assume domestic status opens every door. The rural pathways guide shows the same catch at other universities.
Which JMP pathways did not require UCAT?
For 2027 entry, Miroma Bunbilla (the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander pathway) didn't need UCAT. Neither did current enabling (EtE) students, the Regional Excellence Pathway (ATAR 99.00 or higher, for school leavers from Hunter New England or the Central Coast) or the Regional Health Professional Pathway. Each one has its own eligibility rules, so a general applicant can't skip UCAT by picking a campus.
The consortium university list warns that some pathways at listed universities don't need UCAT, without spelling out the JMP's criteria. Those details live on the JMP's own pages, and you'll need to check the 2028 versions when they're released.
How did applicants apply to the JMP?
For 2027 entry you needed three separate things: a UCAT sitting (where your route required it), the direct JMP application and a UAC application. A UCAT score doesn't lodge either application. Keep the how-to-apply page open next to UAC when the next round starts.
The direct JMP application for 2027 entry closed on 30 September 2026. The main UAC application closed the same day, and the JMP preference could be added by 1 December 2026. Those dates are gone, and they don't tell you the 2027 dates for 2028 entry. The JMP's own pages also disagree on some dates for special pathways, for example a 30 September and a 31 October deadline for Miroma Bunbilla UAC applications, so check the current page for your pathway and the UAC notice before you act.
Newcastle and UNE run one program together, and you still need to understand the campus and location preferences. The Australia guide lists both universities and compares the JMP's process with the rest of Australia.
How should I prepare for the next JMP round?
Start with the official UCAT ANZ practice resources. The JMP's 2027 entry ranking used Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning, so those are the sections to drill. The score calculator adds them up; it can't reproduce the JMP's rank or its unpublished threshold. Use your practice results to find where your reasoning or pace slips, and start on the direct application evidence early.
UCAT ANZ 2027 is for 2028 entry. The 2027 test dates and the JMP's 2028 rules weren't out when I checked. The dates guide will carry the test schedule once UCAT ANZ releases it, and the JMP's own site will carry its application calendar and any SJT decision.
What else do applicants ask?
What is the JMP UCAT cut-off?
The JMP didn't publish one for 2027 entry (test sat in 2026). It set selection levels after direct applications closed.
Did the JMP count SJT?
No. It excluded SJT for 2027 entry. The 2028 rule hadn't been confirmed when I checked on 14 October 2026.
Is UAC enough for the JMP?
No. For 2027 entry you needed a direct JMP application as well as UAC, plus UCAT on routes that required it.
For timed practice in the three sections the JMP ranked on, see how Cutline UCAT practice works.
Cutline is NZ-based and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the UCAT ANZ Consortium, the University of Newcastle or the University of New England. UCAT is used here only to describe the test. University and UCAT ANZ information checked 14 October 2026. Check official pages for 2028 entry rules when published.
