UQ provisional entry UCAT: scores, weighting and pathways

UQ provisional entry UCAT scores do two jobs: they decide who gets a Medicine interview, and then they make up 25 percent of the final ranking, under UQ's 2027 entry rules (test sat in 2026). The lowest interview scores UQ has published are 2290 for non-rural applicants and 1960 for its Rural Background Sub-quota, and both come from 2026 entry, with the test sat in 2025. Neither one is a 2028 cut-off. UCAT ANZ 2027 is the sitting for 2028 entry, and most of those rules aren't out yet.

What was the UQ provisional entry UCAT cut-off?

UQ publishes the lowest score it invited to interview for a past intake. The 2290 and 1960 figures are for 2026 entry, from the test sat in 2025. They mark that year's interview line, and UQ doesn't set a UCAT minimum in advance. UQ says the score "depends on the performance of all applicants and the available places", so it moves every year. The entry requirements page is where any newer figure will appear.

This table keeps each number with its years and its group.

The 2025 sitting had three cognitive subtests, so 2290 and 1960 are on the current scale out of 2700. Tests sat before 2025 included Abstract Reasoning and were out of 3600. That matters when you look at Monash's longer series next to UQ. It doesn't turn 2290 into a prediction for the next cohort.

How does UQ use UCAT for Medicine?

For 2027 entry, UQ shortlisted for interview on the total of Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning, and broke ties with Situational Judgement and then Verbal Reasoning. The final rank was adjusted ATAR 25 percent, cognitive UCAT 25 percent and the multiple mini interview 50 percent, with a minimum MMI score. That comes from UQ's admissions policy, Schedule 2, last approved on 27 August 2026. UQ's provisional entry how-to-apply page still said UQ was "reviewing" how it uses UCAT when I checked. The two pages don't match. Schedule 2 is UQ's formal policy and gives the detail above, but read both before you plan.

The minimum for 2027 entry was an adjusted ATAR of 95, plus English. You could clear that and miss an interview, or get an interview and not rank high enough for an offer. The MMI is half the final score, so your UCAT can't settle things on its own.

UQ fills interview places in stages: the rural sub-quota first, then Queensland Year 12 applicants until they make up at least half of the invitations. The stage you fall into decides who you're competing with, which is why the admission schemes are worth reading before you trust any single number from a forum.

Who can use the provisional entry pathway?

Provisional entry is for students in their first attempt at Year 12. You start a UQ bachelor degree with a provisional place in the Doctor of Medicine, and to move into the MD you need to finish that first degree in the minimum time with a GPA of at least 5.0 across your UQ study. Graduates go through UQ's graduate-entry route, which uses GAMSAT.

For 2027 entry, domestic applicants applied through QTAC by 30 September 2026, with separate bonded and non-bonded codes. UQ also opened a new six-year Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine for its first intake in 2027, using the same UCAT and MMI approach with its own course requirements. Check that course separately when the 2028 guide comes out.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants have their own pathway. UQ encourages UCAT for it but says it "isn't compulsory". That doesn't change the rule for everyone else.

How do the CQU and UniSQ pathways compare?

Two regional routes lead into the UQ MD: CQUniversity's Medical Science (Pathway to Medicine) and UniSQ's Medicine Pathway. For 2027 entry, both used UCAT to invite applicants to an MMI and ranked offers on ATAR 25 percent, UCAT 25 percent and MMI 50 percent. Both put rural applicants into priority tiers. Neither published a UCAT cut-off.

They're separate QTAC preferences and separate bachelor degrees, so the shared weights don't make them interchangeable. CQU's progression rule is to finish in minimum time and pass every unit. On UniSQ, the two universities word it differently: UniSQ's page asks for a cumulative GPA of 5.0 in the pre-medicine part, while UQ's page says you need to complete it in minimum time. Check both pages and ask UniSQ if they still differ when you apply. The CQU pathway detail and UniSQ offer guide hold the 2027 rules, and our weighting guide compares them with other medical schools.

How should I prepare for a 2028 application?

Treat 2290 as background. Nobody knows UQ's interview line for UCAT ANZ 2027 yet. The Australia guide keeps every university's route next to its score policy. For the test, start with the official material, then use the Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning pages when you want more timed sets. The score calculator adds your cognitive sections; it can't predict UQ's next interview line.

I'm an Otago med student and sat the same UCAT. Cutline is NZ-based and I haven't applied through QTAC, so everything about UQ here comes from UQ's published pages.

What else do UQ applicants ask?

Is 2290 the UQ UCAT cut-off for 2028 entry?

No. It was the lowest non-rural interview invitation score for 2026 entry, from UCAT sat in 2025. UQ hasn't published a 2028 figure.

Does UQ add SJT to the Medicine total?

No. For 2027 entry, UQ used the three cognitive sections for the total, and SJT only broke ties.

Does provisional entry mean starting the MD straight away?

No. You finish a UQ bachelor degree first and meet the progression rules, then move into the MD.
