UCAT score for UNSW Medicine: the published minimums

The UCAT score for UNSW Medicine has a published minimum, which most Australian medical schools don't give you. For 2027 entry, with UCAT sat in 2026, UNSW asked for at least the 50th percentile on General, Gateway and Lateral Entry, and the 40th percentile on Rural Entry. Meeting the minimum gets your application considered. It doesn't get you an interview or an offer on its own. UNSW hasn't published minimums for 2028 entry (test sat in 2027).

What UCAT score for UNSW Medicine was published?

UNSW sets its minimum as a percentile instead of a fixed total, so the bar moves with the cohort that sat the test that year. Copying a raw total from an old score table won't tell you much. The domestic applicants page lists these 2027 entry requirements.

The table shows UNSW's UCAT minimums for 2027 entry (test sat in 2026) next to the academic minimum for each route.

Gateway and Rural Entry each have their own eligibility rules, so you can't get the lower rural percentile by picking a different UAC preference. UNSW sets out rural eligibility, interviews and application steps on the same page. Lateral Entry is for students in Year 2 of UNSW's Bachelor of Medical Science, who sit UCAT that year and apply by 30 September.

How does UNSW use UCAT after the minimum?

For General entry, UNSW ranks you on academic results and UCAT together to decide interview invitations, and says "Your results won't be averaged". You need high enough marks on both. The final domestic rank uses academic results, UCAT and the interview, and again UNSW says the scores aren't averaged and a high score in one area won't make up for a low one. It doesn't publish a percentage weighting, so there's nothing to plug into a calculator. Clearing the 50th percentile gets you through the door, and your UCAT keeps counting after that.

Interviews are structured and face to face, with two interviewers. For 2027 entry, rural interviews ran in regional centres as well as at Kensington, and UNSW kept an 18 January 2027 slot for New Zealand applicants whose school results come out late. Those dates belong to that intake. The 2028 schedule isn't out.

UNSW says "the situational judgement mark from the UCAT ANZ will not be considered". The part of your score that matters is the cognitive side: Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning. The official scoring page explains how SJT sits apart from the cognitive total, and our SJT comparison shows how other universities use the same test differently.

Does the ATAR minimum tell me the likely offer score?

No. The 96.00 General and 91.00 Rural and Gateway figures were the minimum ATARs for 2027 entry, and they aren't the lowest offers from any intake. The final decision also takes in UCAT and the interview. Treat each minimum as the condition for entering the process.

If you've done university study, UNSW lists GPA alternatives: 5.5 for General and 4.8 for Rural, on a 7 point scale, for 2027 entry. Whether a degree result replaces your school record depends on your situation, so read the course page and the admissions page together.

The Indigenous Entry Scheme runs its own process, and UNSW says applicants "do not need to sit the UCAT ANZ". International applicants could use UCAT or ISAT for 2027 entry. Each of those routes has its own page, so don't carry the General domestic percentile across to them.

How do I apply for UNSW Medicine?

For 2027 entry, you applied through UAC and filled in the Medicine Application Form inside UAC, and the deadline was 30 September 2026. Booking UCAT is a separate step: your score doesn't create an application. You give your UCAT ANZ ID on the application, and UCAT ANZ sends your results to the universities. The results page explains how that works.

UNSW says its redesigned Medicine program launches in 2028 with the "same admission and entry pathways". It hasn't published 2028 UCAT minimums, weightings or deadlines. If you're sitting UCAT ANZ 2027 for 2028 entry, keep the admissions page bookmarked next to the Australia UCAT guide and check back when UNSW posts the new year's detail.

What can I prepare before the new rules appear?

Learn the current format and practise the three cognitive sections with the official resources. Cutline has separate Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making and Quantitative Reasoning pages for timed sets. A mock total is good for finding your weak section. It can't tell you where you'd rank at UNSW in 2028, because neither the cohort nor the rules exist yet.

I'm an Otago med student and sat the same test you'll sit. Cutline is NZ-based and I haven't been through UNSW's interviews, so this guide comes from UNSW's own admissions pages. If your background might fit Rural Entry, the rural pathways guide is the next thing to read.

What else do UNSW applicants ask?

Is the UNSW minimum a fixed score out of 2700?

No. For 2027 entry, with UCAT sat in 2026, UNSW set a percentile: 50th for General, Gateway and Lateral Entry, and 40th for Rural Entry.

Does UNSW use the UCAT SJT?

No. UNSW says it won't consider the Situational Judgement mark, in its published 2027 entry process.

Is there a 2028 entry cut-off yet?

No. UNSW hadn't published a 2028 UCAT minimum (test sat in 2027) when I checked on 14 October 2026.
