heads up first: this is Cutline's blog and we're comparing ourselves with MedEntry, so we're obviously not neutral π every MedEntry fact here comes from MedEntry's own NZ and Australian websites, checked on 2 November 2026, linked at the bottom. we say where MedEntry is ahead too, because in some ways it clearly is.
medentry vs cutline: the short answer
MedEntry is a full prep company: a big online platform plus workshops, classes and one-on-one tutoring, sold as one payment for the year, from NZ$295 for the platform up to NZ$2,295 and beyond with tutoring. Cutline is online only and built just for UCAT ANZ: nearly 1,000 questions on a screen like the real test, built around fixing the exact mistakes you keep making, with a free plan, NZ$29 a month or a NZ$149 Season Pass. if you want a person teaching you, MedEntry. if you want to practise like the real test and train your weak spots on your own schedule, for a lot less, Cutline.

where MedEntry is genuinely ahead
if you want a human, MedEntry has them and we don't. Premium adds a two day workshop, Comprehensive adds 10 hours of one-on-one tutoring (in person is possible in NZ), and you can buy weekly or intensive classes on their own. it also has a much bigger bank, 25+ full mocks, an app and more than 20 years of running UCAT prep. some people genuinely learn better with a tutor, and if that's you, that's a real reason to pick it.
is medentry worth the money?
that depends on whether you'll use the teaching. Essential, which is the platform without the workshop or tutoring, is NZ$295 (A$395) paid at once. the tutoring packages are NZ$2,295 and NZ$3,470. refunds are only in exceptional circumstances, so it's worth being sure before you pay. MedEntry also advertises a "92% Success Rate", but the footnote says that's for students "undergoing our full training program" and the page doesn't define success, so treat it as their claim rather than a stat you can compare.
practice that feels like the real test
UCAT ANZ is mostly a speed test, like 22 minutes for 44 Verbal Reasoning questions, so how the screen feels matters a lot. Cutline's practice screen copies the real one, same layout, timer, flag and navigator, so test day doesn't feel new:

the Cutline Method: fixing what you actually get wrong
this is the thing we built Cutline around. most UCAT marks go to the same few traps on repeat, like reading "some" as "all", picking Can't Tell when the passage actually says it, or using the wrong base in a percentage question π more questions won't fix that on their own.
so every miss goes: miss it, name it, fix it, retire it. the review names the trap (there are 37 of them), it lands on your Train board, you drill it on new questions, and three clean, in-time dodges retire it. it even flags the ones you got right too slowly, because in UCAT slow is basically wrong:

it's a bit like having the "what do I work on next" part of tutoring done for you, without the tutoring price (to be clear, it's not a tutor, there's no person on the other end, it's practice that knows your weak spots).
what you'd actually pay
- β Cutline free: 30 new questions a day, Full mock 1, three trainer rounds a day, no card
- β Cutline Monthly: NZ$29 or A$29 a month after 7 days free, cancel anytime
- β Cutline Season Pass: NZ$149 or A$149 once, until 31 August 2027, 14 day full refund
- MedEntry Essential: NZ$295 or A$395 once, until early August 2027
- MedEntry Premium (with the workshop): from NZ$445 or A$595
- MedEntry Comprehensive (with 10 hours of tutoring): NZ$2,295 or A$3,495
Cutline also gives you the UCAT Playbook, a score calculator with the ANZ 2026 deciles and a guide to each university that uses UCAT ANZ, all free.
so which one should you pick?
- pick MedEntry if you want a tutor, a workshop or classes, or 25+ full mocks, and you're happy to pay for the year up front.
- pick Cutline if you'll prep on your own, you want a screen like the real test and practice that goes straight at your weak spots, and you'd rather pay NZ$149 once (or start free) than NZ$295 and up.
whatever you choose, start with the free official practice, and don't treat anyone's mock score as an official UCAT score, ours included (why mock scores and real scores differ). if you're still deciding whether to pay at all, read do you need paid UCAT prep. we also compared Medify vs MedEntry and Medify vs Cutline. or try a free Cutline UCAT set and see how the method feels β¨
